Eat This: Parmesan & Rosemary Mashed Potater Tots at Jamber

On days when fries are aren’t enough and poutine seems like too much, consider the mashed potater tots at Jamber. The dual-story SOMA wine and beer bar, set in an old elevator repair shop, serves Parmesan- and rosemary-laced mashed potatoes rolled into a ball and deep-fried until they’re crisp on the outside and still creamy in the center. They’re good on their own; dipped in the umami-rich accompanying bacon jam, they’re extraordinary (vegetarians or those looking for something sweet can get cranberry-walnut jam).

Bonus points: Any of the 14 beers and 24 wines on tap (all from California) can be served in a pitcher-like “Jamber jug,” and the munchie-friendly menu also offers mozzarella sticks, mac and cheese, a pork-belly-and-peanut-butter sandwich, and, for dessert, It’s It bars.
