Strainwise: Ganja Gold’s Purple Pie Tarantula Pre-Roll
Many folks may find the concept of pre-rolls denies them the enjoyment of crafting the perfectly rolled joint. We are creatures of ritual after all, and what ritual could be better than the careful and gleeful preparation of a flower for consumption? In the case of Ganja Gold’s Blue Tarantula, it’s doubtful any but the most experienced rollers could produce something quite so stunningly presented (and potent).
An indoor, strain-specific bud coated in wax, hash, and kief, this spider will crawl up on you fast and leave behind a dense web. My Blue Tarantula was rolled with Ganja Gold’s Purple Pie, but both the Blue Tarantula and its Green counterpart are available in a variety of strains. I took two modest hits on a sunny Saturday afternoon and was shortly very grateful my schedule was clear thereafter. The Blue Tarantula is a heavy high, one that might make going out in public or following through on those chores you’ve put off next to impossible. This is a product to be consumed with the stereo on and nothing to do, as that’s likely all you’ll be able to handle for the better part of an hour after you partake.
From a practical standpoint, the Blue Tarantula burned evenly and lit easily. The coating added extra flavor, offering a very pleasant but powerful taste with each hit. Another plus was being able to put out the joint after having my fill and then relight it easily later, without runs in the paper or any MacGyver-esque tinkering. This is an important point, because aside from those smokers with the highest of tolerances, there is no way you’re coming close to finishing this in one go.
An excellent option for an intense, full-body high, Ganja Gold’s Blue Tarantula will ease serious symptoms or simply take you away on a brief journey aboard your couch. While many pre-roll companies have shelf lives shorter than the products they produce, Ganja Gold has been in the game for three years now, and if their Blue Tarantulas are indicative of their plans for the future, here’s hoping they stick around for many more.
Sizable pre-roll comes in a sturdy and compact plastic casing. When removed, the outer coating of kief gives the product an immensely pleasing aesthetic.
The oil, wax, and kief will be the first thing you smell after taking a Tarantula from its casing. They blend together into a scent reminiscent of a forest after rain — ripe, natural, and intoxicating.
Full-throated pine and other natural flavors were immediately noticeable on the dry hit and subsequent puffs. The flavor composition of the flower mixed with oil, wax, and kief is quite remarkable: fresh and delectable. Taste will vary with strain, but the blend of flavors seems likely to carry over no matter which type you select.
Heady, heavy, and long-lasting. This product is a serious commitment but still never built into a high that felt oppressive or uncomfortably intense.
Ideal for acute anxiety or other symptoms needing immediate relief. Probably not your best bet as a sleep aid or midday pain reliever.
The Blue Tarantula has amazing flavor and packs quite a punch. As a pre-roll, it may not be the best thing to slip into your pocket for a day out, but for those seeking a sustained experience, it’s hard to do much better. Not recommended for novice cannabis users.
