Three high-potency tinctures from Humboldt Apothecary redefine the term ‘Emerald Triangle.’
Tinctures are a unique option on California dispensary shelves, because they’re not subject to the same modest potency limits as other pot products. State law says that infused products like edibles cannot have more than 100 milligrams of THC per serving, but tinctures fall under a separate category that allows for up to 1,000 milligrams of the cannabinoids THC or CBD in each bottle.
Another quirk of California cannabis law says that if you use the name of a city, county, or region in your product, then 100 percent of the weed has to have been sourced there. That’s not a problem for Humboldt Apothecary, which just released a new suite of Humboldt-harvested, CBD-rich tinctures designed to treat insomnia and anxiety.
These three tinctures have self-describing names like Rest, Relax, and Uplift. Their labeling claims, “The effects of this product may be delayed by up to two hours,” but SF Evergreen found that each kicked in with their desired effects in less than 20 minutes.
If you haven’t tinctured before, each bottle comes with an eye dropper-style lid that lets you squirt the tincture under the tongue or into a beverage for easy microsing (or macro-dosing, if you’re so inclined). It’s conveniently labeled with measurement numbers, so you can measure out as close to a milliliter as you like with each drop.
Of the three, the energizing Uplift formulation is the only one suitable for any kind of productivity. It’s a one-to-one ratio of CBD to THC, a relaxing daytime blend with hints of rosemary.
Relax CBD is a 3:1 mix in favor of the CBD, sparking a pleasant limpness in your joints while counteracting anxiety. It’s especially fun for a skritching session with your cat or dog.
Rest has an impressive 250 milligrams of THC (and no CBD at all), and it’s recommended for lights-out sleepytime that comes with no lingering marijuana hangover.
These bottles retail at around anywhere from $35 to $50 (before taxes), because they vary by strength and potency. But Humboldt Apothecary has been brewing herbal formulations for more than 25 years, and they stay true to what put Northern California on the map.
Potency: These are tinctures, so the potency is far higher than normal cannabis products. One dropper can contain up to 8 milligrams of THC or 6 milligrams of CBD, and you get 30 dropper servings per bottle.
Smell: A fairly faint essential oil kind of scent, but nothing overpowering.
Taste: A bitter, buttery oil flavor, though by no means artificial tasting with Humboldt Apothecary’s all-natural ingredients.
Appearance: Standard medicine dropper bottles full of a golden yellowish oil, and a numerically labeled dropper that makes measured dosing a snap.
Medical Application: Unwinding, sleeping, or the elimination of stressy anxieties.
Effect: This is much more bang for your cannabis buck than most items on sale at dispensaries, and a welcome new line of products for fans of this veteran tincture brand.
